Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy SessionWhat is massage therapy?

Massage therapy seeks to restore optimal function of your musculoskeletal system.

Using the principles of anatomy and body movement, massage therapists work towards improving the balance between muscles, joints, skin and general circulation of blood and lymph.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

  • reduce stress
  • improve joint mobility
  • reduce pain
  • alleviate depression
  • reduce tension within muscles
  • boost immune system
  • improve circulation
  • decrease edema, or “swelling”
  • increase body awareness
  • decrease headaches

Can I combine massage, acupuncture and chiropractic treatments to manage my pain?

Yes. Many patients are pleased to discover how well their bodies respond to natural therapies. Our therapists work together to combine the best of chiropractic, massage therapy and acupuncture to develop a specialized plan to help the body strengthen and heal itself. These therapies compliment each other well because they work on different aspects of your pain and ultimately make the other therapies more effective.

Why do I feel sore and/or thirsty after a massage?

A good massage will help to flush toxins out of your muscles. This can lead to soreness after massage. Drinking lots of water before and immediately after a session can help reduce the feeling of soreness.

It is very important to communicate with your massage therapist before, during and after your session about your expectations before you begin. Do not be afraid to indicate if the intensity during a treatment is too much as it is important to work within your personal limits to maximize the therapeutic effect and reduce the probability of soreness after massage.

How often will I need to come in?

Your massage therapist will discuss a schedule of care, which will depend on your specific circumstances.

Can you have a massage during pregnancy?

Yes, in fact it is highly recommended for the second and third trimester of pregnancy. Please let the receptionist know when you are booking your appointment that you are pregnant and what trimester you are in.

We’d love to meet you and answer your questions. Contact us today.
